I’ve been researching women's and reproductive health since 2018, through a PhD in Women’s and Reproductive Health at the University of Oxford, and now through work on AI governance and health technology policy.
I've witnessed firsthand how overwhelming it can be to navigate the femtech landscape. Too many products make bold claims without evidence, collect sensitive data without transparency, or simply don't deliver on their promises.
We created Femiliar because women deserve better. We deserve to make informed decisions about the health products we use, backed by clear, independent evaluation.
What is Femtech?
Femtech is short for "female health technology." It encompasses a broad spectrum of products and services designed to address health challenges unique to women.
From period trackers to fertility monitors, menopause support apps to pelvic floor trainers—femtech promises to empower women's health decisions. But how do you know which products actually deliver on their promises?

The SAFE Scoring Method
Every product receives a SAFE Score from 0 to 100 based on four critical dimensions. Higher scores indicate better privacy, stronger evidence, more robust foundations, and greater commitment to equity.
The SAFE Method was created by Bethany Corbin, author and femtech advocate.
How SAFE Scores Are Calculated
Each dimension is scored from 0-25, then added together for the total SAFE Score:
Security & Privacy
How well does the product protect your personal health data? We evaluate encryption standards, data sharing practices, privacy policies, and compliance with data protection regulations.
Accuracy
Is the product backed by scientific evidence? We assess clinical validation, peer-reviewed research citations, accuracy of health predictions, and transparency about limitations.
Foundation
What's the company's track record and expertise? We review team credentials, funding transparency, regulatory compliance, and organizational stability.
Equity
Does the product work for all bodies and identities? We evaluate inclusivity in design, diversity in research populations, accessibility features, and commitment to serving underrepresented communities.
Transparent Scoring
Every SAFE Score includes a dimension-by-dimension breakdown so it's crystal clear what raised or lowered a product's rating. No black boxes. No hidden criteria. Just honest, evidence-based evaluation.

Gather Publicly Available Information
We review research publications, regulatory filings, company websites, app store descriptions, marketing materials, FAQs, help centers, and privacy policies. Everything is based on accessible, verifiable sources.
Evaluate Across SAFE Dimensions
Each product is assessed systematically across Security & Privacy, Accuracy, Foundation, and Equity. We apply consistent criteria to ensure fair, comparable evaluations.
Calculate & Publish Transparent Scores
We aggregate the dimension scores into an overall SAFE Score from 0 to 100. Every score includes a detailed breakdown showing exactly what influenced the rating—no hidden criteria.
